A word from chief
I believe in our children; they are the key to our success in the future. I believe we are obligated to train them to become upstanding men and women of our society and prepare them to face and conquer the challenges of tomorrow. Our children are leaders in the raw and must be nurtured , taught and refined to expose the natural abilities and talents they posses; not only for their sake, but, for ours as well. A way to insure they will achieve their dreams in life is to surround them with moral and ethical role models; role models who are willing to serve as coaches, teachers, and mentors to assist in developing them during adolescence. This increases their chances for success.
The concept "it takes a village to raise a child" still holds true in our society today. We all have something of value to share with our children. It's up to us to search our heart and find that special something that will set an example for our children to follow.
My special something is teaching and spending quality time with children who are motivated by learning. I have worked with children in many different capacities. I'm currently serving as a youth advisor in our local community. I also serve as the committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop #111 for the Crestdale Community in Charlotte. I have served as a counselor, big brother, football coach, and mentor and all were rewarding experiences for my family and me. I believe spending productive time with children helps you to become a better parent. My wife and I have three children and have benefited tremendously from our involvement with the children in the community.
After reading the goal and mission statement of the Junior ROTC Program ( of which I am totally in favor of), and having served my country for over 22 years, I believe becoming a JROTC instructor is an excellent transitional occupation for me. It will provide me with a conduit to share my experiences and disciplines I have learned over the years, maintain my military wits, but most importantly , it provides me the opportunity to have a positive impact on our cadets of today and future leaders of tomorrow.
